was to determine if participating in centering prayer diminishes the internal stressors caused by traumatic experiences by allowing God's presence to bring healing and transformation. The method was to establish two centering prayer groups meeting for six weeks to engage in centering prayer daily with weekly group meetings. To evaluate the effectiveness of centering prayer practice, pre-centering prayer and post-centering prayer surveys were conducted to determine stress changes noted due to the centering prayer. The Brothers of Taizé have a model of contemplative service which gives space for this by using simple songs, scripture and silence.  The author studied congregations who were already using the Taizé model to see the long-term effects on each congregation.  The author then assisted three congregations in the Washington, D.C. area to create monthly worship services using this model for the 2012-2013 academic year. The project used a varied methodology including library and proactive qualitative and quantitative research. Qualitative research included videotaped sections oft he spiritual formation program in a local church and participants' journals of the experiences of praying with pets over the same period of time. The qualitative research, a survey to assess individuals' prayer frequency and their openness for integrating animals into spiritual practices was administered in three churches. With solid historical, biblical, and theological bases, it is a key tool in producing spiritual growth and maturity in contemporary Christians. Contemplative prayer will bring a path to wholeness and heal the true self so that greater peace and charity in daily life can be enjoyed.  I taught ten weeks of a contemplative prayer seminar in spring and fall, 2005.  I interviewed and surveyed participants how contemplative prayer could affect their daily life.
