To do this, three self-select groups (well-parented, dysfunctionally parented and reparented respondents) were all given a combination 'questionnaire-interview' (based primarily on the thinking of Kohut, Winnicott and Langs) and the MMPI.  Results were sought on seven specific MMPI scales.  Although the research hypotheses were not proved using these seven scales, several unhypothesized findings were worthwhile: there were correlations between the self-select group and overall health through general impressions of the whole of MMPI profiles looking at all the scales together. The project describes the existing lay counseling program at Rolling Hills Covenant Church (Rolling Hills Estates, California) and evaluates the success of the program through the spiritual well-being scale, the counseling program training questionnaire, the target complaints worksheet, and the post-counseling questionnaire.  The study concluded with affirmative results to all the evaluation measures, reporting positive responses from the counselors trained and from the counselees who saw those counselors.  Recommendations were made for pastors to think relationally in their Bible teaching and training, and for professional Christian therapists to think biblically in their counseling. It is applied to the setting of the North American Chinese church; therefore the approach is sensitive to the cultural and social factors involved. The product was tested and evaluated by a small group of competent counselors and pastors in the project phase.  It was revised using the group input.  The result is a training manual that first outlines the overall principles in counseling Chinese.
