The research design procedure follows the nonrandomized control-group pretest-posttest design delineated from the Handbook in research and evaluation.  The research results indicated that there was no difference between the two groups concerning immediate feelings about post-high school plans (state anxiety). To do this, three self-select groups (well-parented, dysfunctionally parented and reparented respondents) were all given a combination 'questionnaire-interview' (based primarily on the thinking of Kohut, Winnicott and Langs) and the MMPI.  Results were sought on seven specific MMPI scales.  Although the research hypotheses were not proved using these seven scales, several unhypothesized findings were worthwhile: there were correlations between the self-select group and overall health through general impressions of the whole of MMPI profiles looking at all the scales together. The project describes the existing lay counseling program at Rolling Hills Covenant Church (Rolling Hills Estates, California) and evaluates the success of the program through the spiritual well-being scale, the counseling program training questionnaire, the target complaints worksheet, and the post-counseling questionnaire.  The study concluded with affirmative results to all the evaluation measures, reporting positive responses from the counselors trained and from the counselees who saw those counselors.  Recommendations were made for pastors to think relationally in their Bible teaching and training, and for professional Christian therapists to think biblically in their counseling. The program uses a counseling methodology based on a biblical understanding of the heart.  Practical and theological implications of the program are presented.  The thesis develops a biblical foundation for counseling in the areas of marriage and divorce and presents case studies to show how the concept of heart counseling can be applied.  Four women were selected and trained to participate in an initial implementation of the program.  The selection procedure and the training regimen are described. The STEP (Systematic Training for Effective Parenting) Program was used to raise the awareness and competence level of teenage mothers on parenting.  The church provided training, teachers, and the space for classes.  The community provided services to the teen mothers through the schools, government agencies, and the court systems. The writer conducted an eight-week worshop for fourteen students.  The validity of the workshop was studied through the use of pretests and posttests for the workshop group and a control group.  The writer completed a statistical analysis of the workshop using t-tests.
