Its purpose is to explore ways in which Christians may learn to pray with theological understanding. We maintain that we learn to pray as we work through our conflicts with God and the world. Since we develop spirtually through combat with God, the more we contend, the more we learn of the covenant of grace. This covenant in Christ provides the context for our spiritual growth since we cannot mature spirtually outside of God's grace. Spiritual growth, then, is a direct result of the practice and discipline of prayer."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Phillips Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["0f3d74d9-8a9b-4580-a458-c2d78a76b977"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717107341983744,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:13:02.069Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:44:41Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:57:15Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e573058b-990d-4c6f-a2dd-f923940c243b","accessControl_ssim":["6ea64761-3ddd-436e-bd16-e193be7ccf0f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Spiritual formation and servanthood"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:44:40Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:41:37Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["4f3f886a-9838-4f08-910b-7b2f1679a535"],"hasLease_ssim":["a6f48f47-cc18-4d56-8bff-b4f7b97d8068"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Phillips Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["W David Richards"],"year_tesim":["1985"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Daniel C Eischen"],"publisher_tesim":["Phillips Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Barth, Karl, 1886-1968","Church work","Covenants--Religious aspects--Christianity","Service (Theology)","Devotional exercises","Spiritual formation","Theology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project was designed to demonstrate, through appropriate sermons and exercises, that spiritual formation is a combination of a life of private devotion and a life of service to others. This report makes use of the theology of Karl Barth to discuss spiritual formation through prayer and service as a fulfillment of our covenant relationship before God. The report also discusses the rationale for lay involvement in the local church. The result of the project was a new awareness on the part of participants in the project that spiritual formation is a balanced life of devotion to God and a life of service to others as representatives of Christ in the world."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Phillips Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["0f3d74d9-8a9b-4580-a458-c2d78a76b977"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799716115417399296,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:57:16.096Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:31:50Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:19:38Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"c9d11082-f4db-43e9-bd01-89f123bbd1fe","accessControl_ssim":["30809941-897a-45d1-81f5-c319399c49e3"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A program for spiritual growth for married couples, utilizing their lived experiences and the image of marriage as a covenant of conjugal love"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:31:49Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:55:48Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e4b981ce-faf4-44ba-a7bf-709b6fcd9d62"],"hasLease_ssim":["3fdf75e2-80b2-4d60-a8fe-50df56a528f5"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Catholic University of America"],"advisor_tesim":["Douglas A Morrison"],"year_tesim":["1985"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Don Anthony Piraro"],"publisher_tesim":["Catholic University of America Department of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Covenants--Religious aspects--Christianity","Spiritual life--Christianity","Marriage--Biblical teaching","Whitehead, James D","Marriage counseling","Whitehead, Evelyn Eaton"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this study is to design, implement, and evaluate a retreat weekend for married couples which enables them: 1. to reflect and dialogue on their experience of God; 2. to learn about the biblical image of covenant from 'Gaudium et Spes'; 3. to become familiar with one example of marital spirituality; and 4. to begin to integrate their experience with the conciliar image.
