was a two-day teaching and interactive workshop at New Bethel AME Church in Lithonia, Georgia. The problem in question was to determine the reasons why clergy face burnout within their context of ministry. The workshop included teaching clergy and lay the definition of crisis, types of crisis, and discussed methods of healing, to include pastoral presence. A mixed methodology of qualitative and quantitative surveys was used to conduct and analyze responses from participants cross-sectionally and longitudinally. This project helps leaders to serve the Lord in faith and good courage while helping them avoid the spiritual dangers of serving self and the powers of darkness in meetings. The focus of this effort is on the moments following alarm or the awareness of stress that is being generated by one's heart. The researcher trained the five men and nine women of the Parish Planning Council on three theological foci: a theology of thinking in crisis, a theology of worship in service, and a theology of leadership in suffering. Each of these monthly sessions was reinforced by a weekly Bible study and a monthly opportunity for a one-on-one meeting where applications of the Alarm Model were made to current issues. The messages emphasized biblical principles relevant to maintaining a kingdom focus during various life crises. The project director identified hermeneutical principles of preaching from narrative passages. The project director examined homiletical works and discovered common approaches to preaching narrative passages. The director developed and preached the sermons at First Baptist Church of Lyman in Gulfport, Mississippi. An expert evaluated the sermon manuscripts. The director recorded the sermon delivery on DVD. The author studied the United Methodist response to clergy sexual misconduct by reviewing denominational and conference policies, and surveying and interviewing response team conveners. This research identified inconsistent conference policies and response, no theology of intervention, passionate response team commitment to healing, and evidence of healing following congregational intervention.
