Although each of these multiethnic churches have come to the same conclusion regarding the importance of being united and inclusive based on their biblical understanding of the New Testament, they have important differences in their strategies. Upon closer examination of each of these representative multiethnic churches, one finds variations because of differing motivations for doing multiethnic ministry. This study focuses on examining these variations. The larger purpose in bringing these distinctions to light is to help multiethnic church planters and pastors better formulate strategies that are consistent with their motivation and their theological rationale for developing a multiethnic ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130030027309056,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:25:06.980Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:42:57Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:54:05Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1a34a5cc-ca1a-41db-ad09-4aa980280e6e","accessControl_ssim":["f6e917de-7761-44a1-9464-1e4c288eb8bb"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Sojourn through spiritual and religious tension: a quantitative study of intercultural competence and worldview development"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:42:56Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:54:05Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["71e5a57b-43fe-415e-9912-3ae27c5731b5"],"hasLease_ssim":["f1195c7b-607f-426f-9ed3-c258c25ec01e"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"advisor_tesim":["Doug Magnuson"],"year_tesim":["2010"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Naomi J Ludeman Smith"],"keyword_tesim":["Worldview"],"publisher_tesim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"subject_tesim":["Cultural pluralism","Foreign study"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Based on Bennett's developmental model of intercultural sensitivity, the researcher investigated intercultural competence and world view development and the relationship to undergraduate students' reflection of their spiritual and religious tension during a semester study abroad. This project is qualitative in nature; case study research was the primary methodology employed. A biblical theology of inter-cultural community was defined focusing on spirituality, hospitality, and missionality. Ethnographic tools were utilized to determine the emic perspective of the multi-cultural setting of Bethel Christian Fellowship. Characteristics of inter-cultural leaders in a multi-cultural setting were discovered. Transformational dynamics needed to shift a local church to an inter-cultural mindset were described. The author interviewed six leaders from each of five churches in Toronto, Canada, and observed two worship services of each church. Data presented and common themes were drawn out. Writers on the intercultural church postulate that leaders must intentionally lead a church to become intercultural. The author found that in four out of the five study churches the leaders did not intend their congregation to become intercultural.
