Cherye offers ethical, social, and religious functions in Korean-American society: order, community, transformation. The project employs literature research to formulate a theological basis, interviews to determine congregational needs, and field study to apply parish context. Christianity and its Eucharist are Euro-American cultural exports not identified with Japanese or Asian culture and images. This project examines the need for Christianity to identify and become indigenous with Japanese and Asian culture.  The project demonstrates how the Chanoyu (Tea Ceremony), which best represents Japanese culture and spirituality and which has been used in Japanese Christian history, can become the Japanese Eucharist.
