The historical roots of medical ethics are surveyed, along with current views of the importance of spirituality. The educational methodology employed is adult cooperative learning and participatory action research utilizing both large and small group models. The theological foundations include the ministry of the laity, two kingdoms, priesthood of all believers, the church, and the role of the laity in the public world. Theoretical foundations include deontology, utilitarianism, absolutism, relativism, Michael Rion's framework from The Responsible Manager, and systems theory. The model was tested in a business ethics seminar which utilized case studies from the participants' business experiences.  The major case study of the seminar was Eli Lilly Company's attempts to operate ethically in South Africa.
