The author served as spiritual director for nine individuals over ten weeks as they engaged practices of prayer, silence, the Jesus Prayer, inner purification and detachment, and awareness of and insight into their thoughts. Evaluative methods included surveys, field notes, and participants' journals. The culture and challenge of the new paradigm church is explored through historical influences.  The theological framework is the theology of theosis as expressed in transcendence and beauty.  Jerome Berryman's model for children's worship (Godly play) shows how through creativity and play children experience spirituality as transcendence and awe. The methodology of this technique will be transferred to adult ministry.
