Lectio divina in its classic medieval, monastic form consisted of reading, meditation, prayer, and contemplation of the Scriptures. This classic approach, with the additional elements of journal keeping, the use of the Jesus Prayer, and the Jungian concept of 'active imagination' was taught to a group of six lay Episcopalians over a six-week period. Written responses from the participants show that this method yields practical results in a deepened prayer life, appreciation of Scripture, and a feeling of closeness to God."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Perkins School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["9d359def-dc0f-4ac7-a978-8df771bc0984"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791126967916953600,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:36:26.725Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:21:28Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:58:47Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b43d4de5-a4a0-4aad-b020-c1a84fe70910","accessControl_ssim":["65038a2f-4e4c-45d5-9535-3348d0d54f14"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Footprints of the divine: a study of imaginative literature as a guide to the Christian journey; emphasis on Prince Caspian by C S Lewis"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:21:28Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:20:12Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["0f822fcf-5ae7-427f-92de-ac11968ff6ab"],"hasLease_ssim":["19c5186c-293c-47ba-ad5f-a3ebdaa23350"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["James C Logan"],"year_tesim":["1987"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Using the original sources of their diaries, letters and published works, their own words are transposed from the written form onto the stage as two-act dramatic monologues. Two completed scripts are included in this work; they are the Fry and Stowe plays which have been performed before live audiences whose feedback is included (chapter 7) in the work and whose reactions informed the re-writing of the finished scripts. Those scripts, with historical introductions and study guides, comprise chapters 3 and 5 of the work. This dissertation deals particularly with Wesley's emphasis on the dignity of man, the possibilities of grace, total stewardship, and God's perfect love expressed through man. Written data from three questions were answered at the beginning and the end of the experiment which showed a positive contribution of process thought."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31bd5819-b5a3-4928-96d5-b581f38b637b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791126833533550592,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:34:18.567Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:15:10Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:40:41Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b40fe0cb-c5ab-4149-94d6-a709fe6ccda7","accessControl_ssim":["d9b5ba00-87d4-443d-875e-bdc2fe3c9e04"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The adult inquiry group evangelistic technique"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:15:09Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:19:53Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["c8b8439c-5a7d-424e-b561-7324bbd995f6"],"hasLease_ssim":["ea8043ac-9951-4523-a132-dee40340f0fd"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Northern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Thomas N Finger"],"year_tesim":["1982"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Joseph L Baker"],"publisher_tesim":["Northern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Clergy","Laity","Evangelistic work","Diaries","Church development, New"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The Adult Inquiry Group (AIG) evangelistic technique was used by the author in founding a new church. The purpose of the project was to make the transition from pastor-led to lay-led AIG groups as an ongoing strategy for evangelism in the local church. The goals of the project were achieved by the following: 1) prepared a paper on the theology of evangelism reflecting the author's interaction with others in the field; 2) formed three pilot lay-led groups; 3) trained six couples; 4) prepared necessary assessment instruments; and 5) kept journal describing feelings and reflections. The evidence shows that through further experiences and added confidence, AIG leaders will produce significant measurable and nonmeasurable results."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Northern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e84517db-6a02-4e61-8d84-c85c5905f6d5"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127238173786112,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:40:44.462Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:11:10Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:32:37Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"3f318233-2507-4ef5-9894-1e48d5ae7bc0","accessControl_ssim":["e532379b-d219-4b92-a2ad-0b4c4b204404"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["'Thou shall have no other gods before me': a Jungian approach to understanding the first commandment"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:11:09Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:57:37Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["b11323f4-4688-4a6f-9266-fae6ca518107"],"hasLease_ssim":["2946c537-3cce-41d7-ba1d-89b9b0a828e7"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["David A Steere"],"year_tesim":["1984"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["William Edgar Kopp"],"publisher_tesim":["Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Progoff, Ira","Centerpoint Foundation","Polytheism","Diaries","Jung, C. The hypothesis and accompanying corollaries were studied using an already existing Jungian study curriculum produced by the Centerpoint Foundation, called Centerpoint I. The curriculum was enhanced by the addition of Ira Progoff's journaling methodology, the personal journals of the participants being the major evaluative data sources for the research itself. The data was generally in support of the hypothesis and its corollaries, namely, that our polytheistic tendencies are rooted in the human psyche and that heightened personal consciousness equates with a movement from polytheism toward monotheism."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["7d2ba5b6-aeec-459a-aaec-e1eed75d32f0"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134279792590848,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:32:39.873Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:06:11Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:13:22Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b2c58690-fa84-4245-896b-31270ff26629","accessControl_ssim":["eb451976-41f2-41a5-bcc4-25269cf022cb"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Teaching the practice of prayer"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:06:11Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:17:48Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e5e878ea-5ea9-4676-8ad4-b15b21572ca1"],"hasLease_ssim":["cc538947-18f6-44fa-b707-b6d1b2275f42"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Phillips Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Brian W Kovacs","Joanna Dewey"],"year_tesim":["1984"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Robin Harvey Cowin"],"publisher_tesim":["Phillips Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["First Baptist Church (Okeene, Okla)","Prayer","Workshops (Adult education)","Diaries","Meditation--Christianity","Lord's prayer","Handbooks and manuals"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The project was the result of a study of different practices of meditative prayer. The result of this project was a workshop that taught the Lord's Prayer as the scriptural basis, the prayer of the heart as the meditative process model, and journaling as an evaluative method. The project was carried out in a prayer workshop in the First Baptist Church of Okeene, Oklahoma in February, 1984. The workshop setting allowed a free interchange of ideas and dealt with the needs of the individual participants.
