The project involved in-depth interviews with church members who had experienced significant crises in their church. The responses fell into the catagories of: the church as community; memory; hope; aspects of the respondents' personalities; and pastoral leadership.  By far the most significant unifying force for these groups was the fellowship of the congregation.
