Although plans to develop a formal and on-going peer counseling support system failed, the young people responded well to the opportunity to share their own experiences with beverage alcohol. To test the thesis, a standardized questionnaire was given to patients of the Presbyterian Hospital chemical dependency unit in Oklahoma City; the questionnaires were  given as the patients arrived and also to 100 former patients who had maintained at least one year of sobriety.  Of the eleven pre-treatment respondents, nine were stage 2 and two were stage 3.  Of the 60 with at least one year sobriety who responded, twenty-eight were at stage 3, fifteen were at stage 4, and fourteen were at stage 5. A research questionnaire was devised and administered to 97 male alcoholics and/or drug addicts. This project focused on eight areas: general background, early childhood, chemical usage, heterosexuality, masturbation, homosexuality, sexual difficulties, and general questions.  The study demonstrates that adult males who are alcoholics and drug addicts have significant sexual dysfunction both when using chemicals and also during periods of sobriety. Methodology involved research in family therapy and chemical dependency, and implementation of aftercare sessions developed for recovering families.
