Utilizing primarily qualitative methods including ethnographic research and interviews, I tested if spiritual reflections on beauty and awe would lead to a desire for more worship outdoors. Scripture, John Calvin and more modern Reformed thinkers provided the theological underpinnings. Scientific thinking was also drawn upon. It was found worship outdoors may both increase openness to beauty and awe, and increase mental wellbeing. The breadth of possibilities for outdoor worship were considered.
