By examining the historical case of Briggs v. Elliott and the present-day situation of county schools, the author found schools are technically desegregated but are far from integrated. Ninety-eight percent of the students are African-American. In present day Summerton, separate still exists and equality remains just out of grasp. Data was collected from archives, surveys, interviews, and published reports.
