This project promotes a public health approach to the treatment of substance abuse by treating the family rather than the individual. Five sessions using an impromptu skit and four didactic sessions educated the abusers about the roles family members play in dysfunctional families. Three additional tracks were started beyond theology, including youth ministry, musicology and iconology. This facilitated a tremendous program growth, including in the number and percentage of women. Students volunteered to participate in a project that offered course and thesis support, counseling, fellowship and prayer. This was done via telephone, internet and standard mail. Surveys and numerous other contacts identified demographics as well as student ministry goals, program satisfaction and student stated program needs. The study concluded that student support services would enhance distance learning theological education. The thesis-project explores contemporary understandings of prophecy and mysticism, and how a prophetic-mystical style of leadership might be appropriated by Catholic school leaders. First, the project director researched critical mission issues and skills for cross-cultural ministry in order to develop a tool to train youth for ministering cross-culturally overseas. Second, the director developed a teaching module for selected Southern baptist leaders in Texas to use to train youth for ministry in cross-cultural setting. Last, the director equipped selected Southern baptist leaders in Texas with the teaching module to train youth in ministering cross-culturally. These selected leaders along with the youth participants provided assessment and evaluation regarding the effectiveness and usefulness of the training module. In addition to the ministry goals, the project director pursued two professional goals. The first professional goal was to increase knowledge in cross-cultural ministry for the purpose of developing a tool for training youth. Research included stories of ancestors, the Black church tradition and personal life stories. Congregational health demonstrated by longer tenures of church leaders and conflict with less intensity and better resolution has occurred as leaders understand and apply systems thinking, recognize the problems and issues in systems, and remain differentiated in difficult situations. The project accomplished these goals. The researcher created, implements, and evaluated a training program, which discussed spiritual development and Christian leadership. The researcher studied the biblical basis for and selected writing about leadership, PCUSA documents, and programs on training elders. Finally, the researcher conducted a phone survey to other PCUSA churches to discuss how they train their elders. The researcher's program was implemented in 2008.
