Yet, women's education in spiritual and biblical matters ought to be taught in the church to equip them for the Great Commission mandate. This thesis-project explores the effectiveness of an existing spiritual education curriculum in the form of a mentoring program for college women. The evaluator uses the positions of women's epistemological development proposed by Belenky and her colleagues as a basis for evaluation. The author also discusses various women of the Bible as they relate to the mentoring program and one's understanding of how the program ought to be restructured. The goals of the study were twofold: (1) assist in the design and implementation of a prototype hybrid preaching course; and (2) conduct the study to determine students' reactions to the design and implementation of the course. Two questions framed the study to ascertain students' feelings regarding how the course was designed to deliver content: (1) How would students react to a prototype hybrid course in preaching? (2) What recommendations would students offer to enhance learning and improve future hybrid course development? Data was collected by electronic survey, focus groups and individual interviews. With this need in mind the Nine Practices of The Proactive Parent was developed to address the moral vacuum cause by the lack of a comprehensive character-driven approach to parenting. This writers observations were gleaned from personal experience, interaction with parents through counseling, teaching opportunities, and in-depth study of well-known parenting experts. As a result, The Nine Practices of The Proactive Parent was developed and implemented with positive results. These results were gathered and calculated through post-course critiques and follow-on counseling. The results have been of consistent high quality. As parents developed a higher level of character-health in their own lives, the resulting impact was more recognizable character-health in their children. Therefore, the author developed a seminar on traditional Methodist spiritual practices and translated it into Russian. In the course of the work on the seminar and delivery of it, the author spent time in Russia and in the United States consulting with pastors, academics and lay people who serve, or who work with the people of the United Methodist Church in the Eurasian Area.
