This has led to a large void in leadership within churches and ministries as well as a disconnection between the local church and seminaries. Alongside this growth is also the fast growth of the church in Africa. The growth of cities could be rich fields for harvest for the church if it is able to use this growth as viable field for the gospel of Jesus Christ. Most seminaries in Africa have not yet awaken to the challenge of training pastors who are able to tackle adequately the urban challenges that face the church in Africa today. In order to provide the desired training for pastors who will be able to minister in the city, this project is written with the view to developing an urban ministry curriculum for the Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS) Mkar in Nigeria. Using descriptive research methodology, twelve missions-active churches were selected for analysis, and case studies were written so that other churches could learn from their example. Pastors and missions leadership teams were primary factors motivating these churches. Missions champions involve others in communicating God's heart for all peoples. Missions education shapes the church culture through multigenerational learning experiences. Missions-active churches are prayerful, supportive and sending churches. A group of six assessors were asked to evaluate the manual using the Likert Scale. Their responses determined the outcome of the project's eight goals. The results indicated that the manual was clear to understand and biblically accurate. It did, however, fail to meet the goals of effectively communicating the process of establishing missional worship experiences. It is the foundation for a believer's spiritual growth, matures through the stages of discipleship, and its role is to align the heart of the believer with God's heart in Christ-like convictions, character, and conduct, daily reaching the goal, 'his heart, my heart.' This thesis/project trains thirty Christian college students with a forty day devotional on devotions using Matthew 6:5-15. This qualitative research is conducted by using a descriptive, inductive research methodology and involved interviews of China Evangelical Seminary missionary alumni. An analysis was done of the practice in Nebraska from 2000 to 2009. The knowledge and skill sets required by the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry of the United Methodist Church nationally were also analyzed. The current Nebraska practices and the national sets recommended were compared to best practice as seen in entry level seminary preaching courses.
