Chapter two advocates supporting teachers through communication, education, recognition, resources and sabbaticals.  Chapter three describes how care is demonstrated to teachers in the way they are recruited.  Chapter four discusses several types of training for teachers and also sets forth six questions that should guide training. The methodology can provide teachers effective ways to address student needs and encourage participation in the learning process.  Improved teachers' self-esteem will result from new skill and pastoral support. A three part methodology was designed that allowed teachers freedom to construct lesson plans for their specific class. Three one-hour training sessions introduced teachers to the methodology;  thirteen weeks of on-the-job training completed the training period.  Teachers were able effectively to address student needs, encourage participation, and improve their self-esteem. According to LC-MS statistics (1977-1987) 17.2 percent of the Synod's parish clergy began a new ministry each year.  The author offers practical insights on congregations and leadership.
