The project was successful. A lay and clergy pilot group of some fifteen persons (Methodists and others) prepared themselves for such union by concentrating on five areas of study: the nature of the church, evangelism, the place of women in the church, music, and the origins of the three black Methodist denominations. This field project sought to rectify this situation within a very limited population by studying the reality of oppression from a black theological perspective with the congregation served by the author. Introduction of black theology to a black congregation helped determine the impact of these concepts on black Christians and develop information that could be used to structure future lectures on black theology for black congregations. Presented to a small group of no more than seven couples over six sessions, the format combines theory presentation, discussion, home assignments and skill development.  Couples who took the course indicated improvement in their relationship-development skills and a clarification of values and goals for their relationship.  The participants felt that they could deal with conflict more openly and creatively than before and had learned some important communication skills. The evaluation of these series involved the compiling and comparing of questionnaires administered to a class using The Bethel Series and one using the Trinity Bible Series. Three main studies were included:  first, a study of the size and location of churches having produced Conservative Baptist foreign missionaries; second, a survey of Conservative Baptist churches to determine the number of missionaries and other Christian workers produced by those churches; third, a six-part program to promote missionary interest in rural churches.  The program was tested in five churches. Its objective is to increase denominational identity among participants by focusing on the histories, doctrines, and polities of American denominations. Affirming that relational behavior is learned and volitional, that teaching the behavior of agape is an essential goal in Christian education, and choosing a 'confluent' approach which blends the 'cognitive' and 'affective' dimensions of learning, an eight session course, 'It's About Love', is presented.
