Episcopalians, like Christians everywhere, are in need of practical theological help to live out their faith in the workplace. The good news is that we have two sources for daily practical Christian living: the Bible and the Prayer Book. Others have explored the Scriptures; this work explores the Prayer Book. It is a common belief in the Episcopal Church that liturgy shapes our faith. It is, therefore, important work to understand the theology of work in the Prayer Book, and to let it become the mold into which our lives are poured. The thesis begins with a theological study of work in the Book of Common Prayer. This study includes two important works that were fashioned for this study. There is a collection of every text in the Prayer Book that deals with work. These texts were then annotated theologically. The second work is a theological compilation which was composed from the annotated texts. These two documents provided the basis for a theological narrative. The literature search explores two areas. First, it focuses on what has been written about theology of work in the Book of Common Prayer. Second, it includes all known American Episcopalian authors who have written on the general topic of Christianity in the workplace. These authors have a number of helpful and interesting ways to reflect on life at work. Finally, a weekend retreat plan is provided. The purpose and format of the retreat are designed to reflect and respond to the various theological points that are found in the Prayer Book. The retreat ends with a Holy Eucharist that is designed to bring liturgical closure to this weekend and to this study."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132003254403072,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:56:28.797Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:09:38Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:46:08Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"485b039b-3a70-44ad-9c44-7ecd46131197","accessControl_ssim":["c57d84a5-0920-40dd-a4e1-77aebc387a86"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Nun like me: a participant-observation study of religious life in the Episcopal Church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:09:37Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:15:06Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["2c577305-9c91-4c31-90c2-b05aec9c6787"],"hasLease_ssim":["d5531c25-d154-4072-a721-5c75a55d884e"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Amy Oden"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. These chaplains are sustained and enabled by a strong sense of God's providence and by a clear vision of 'calling' understood through a rather literal application of the Ordinal of the Episcopal Church. The project discusses worship among nineteenth-century Episcopalians and the church's place in the antebellum South. It is a resource for re-enactors and living-history presenters."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717730291548160,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:22:56.159Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T06:48:46Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:02:46Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"70fb2d11-3b18-4a7e-8efe-b61e267b5a0d","accessControl_ssim":["9abe8d85-8f11-4ced-8e6c-7de58814686e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The development of nwnet: an e-mail communication system for the Diocese of New Westminster"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T06:48:44Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:26:31Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["78f674cf-3959-48fb-93b0-1b1d17be48d8"],"hasLease_ssim":["67640ff6-94ec-45ba-9e3d-0a5bf8ee02ea"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["United Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["David Lochhead"],"year_tesim":["1997"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Ronald Leslie Barnes"],"keyword_tesim":["Episcopal Church--Dioceses"],"publisher_tesim":["United Theological Seminary (OH)"],"subject_tesim":["Computers in churches","Episcopal Church","Electronic mail systems"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project proposes that an in-house electronic mail system can helpfully facilitate the work of clergy in Anglican/Episcopal dioceses in North America.
