Although each of these multiethnic churches have come to the same conclusion regarding the importance of being united and inclusive based on their biblical understanding of the New Testament, they have important differences in their strategies. Upon closer examination of each of these representative multiethnic churches, one finds variations because of differing motivations for doing multiethnic ministry. This study focuses on examining these variations. The larger purpose in bringing these distinctions to light is to help multiethnic church planters and pastors better formulate strategies that are consistent with their motivation and their theological rationale for developing a multiethnic ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130030027309056,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:25:06.980Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:22:38Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:52:30Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"24caef77-a83e-4c70-9a9d-c0194f1145ab","accessControl_ssim":["470a877d-ad96-4936-90d3-77159685e8c2"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["An educational model of pastoral care to support racial and ethnic diversity in Unitarian Universalist congregations"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:22:36Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:13:03Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f8286e83-bc28-4288-bea8-44b13383975f"],"hasLease_ssim":["2b50f7dd-3ce8-485c-8566-744dbf97373c"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Kathleen J Greider"],"year_tesim":["2008"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Monica L Cummings"],"publisher_tesim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Clergy","Race relations","Unitarian Universalist Association","Ethnicity","Pastoral theology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Unitarian Universalism has a long history of working for social justice in the United States. The approach used to bring about justice has been in the form of protests, political activism and writing political representatives. However, Unitarian Universalism has not intentionally focused on the pastoral care needs of people in their congregations who are most wounded by injustice. This project describes an intentional approach to cross-cultural pastoral care that employs a new integrated multifactorial assessment model to support racial and ethnic diversity in Unitarian Universalist congregations, by calling attention to the significance of culture on the identity formation of individuals who are labeled by the dominant culture as minorities. Additionally, the project encourages Unitarian Universalist ministers and religious educators when providing pastoral care to consider the history, family, culture and religious/theological issues that inform, nurture and sustain Unitarian Universalists who identify themselves as persons of color or members of an ethnic minority group in the United States."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e7e2d3cb-fc51-4ba5-a7fd-d43f3f8c150b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131757884473344,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:52:34.794Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:02:41Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:58:30Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b8998cab-afca-444c-8661-f9ad8244f130","accessControl_ssim":["8292490b-a7e5-43df-b5d4-16a28a936d94"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Affirming ethnicity, combating ethnocentricity: foundations for training Christian leaders"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:02:41Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:27:13Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["db09e6df-7f13-406a-b3c8-bc9a243c8271"],"hasLease_ssim":["3a850db3-5968-45ac-a553-27141f379e31"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Timothy C Tennent"],"year_tesim":["2007"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Paul M Borthwick"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Christianity and culture","Race relations","Theological anthropology--Christianity","Nationalism--Religious aspects--Christianity","Ethnicity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["A challenge in cross-cultural leadership development is affirming cultural, ethnic and indigenous identity while simultaneously challenging ethnocentricity. This examination affirms biblical teaching which simultaneously endorses cultural particularity while affirming the universality of humanity under God. This universality is based on creation, God's redemptive plan for all nations, Jesus' death on the cross, the establishment of the church, and the eschatological vision of the multi-cultural assembly in Revelation 5:9 and 7:9. Implementing this unity-in-diversity includes identifying sinful tendencies to find our identity at the expense of others, caring for the 'outsiders,' participating in God's redemptive plan, working towards reconciliation, and taking initiative to live out the 'new humanity' described in Ephesians 2:11-22."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132134677676032,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:58:34.132Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:00:41Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:03:51Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a04335a7-c36b-4dee-9600-013071814386","accessControl_ssim":["79ded7ee-1b7c-4ef0-8999-c168a34ec9b1"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Formulating missiological approaches through the analysis of the Korean minority identity in Uzbekistan"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:00:40Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:48:22Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d6c948a5-fbe6-4d50-aa98-6cb196853611"],"hasLease_ssim":["6cc70fa0-b5be-40a8-bf19-38b7cf0b608a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"year_tesim":["2008"],"location_tesim":["Uzbekistan"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Daniel E Kim"],"keyword_tesim":["Relation (Theology)"],"publisher_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"subject_tesim":["Religion","Strategy","Koreans--Ethnic identity","Koreans","Missions","Ethnicity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Uzbekistan Koreans are one of the many minority groups who migrated to Central Asia from the Russian Far East in 1937 under the coercive migration policy of the former Soviet Union. Though these Koreans have been living as Soviets under the old Soviet socialist system, their ethnic identity had been challenged since the October Revolution of 1917. Now, after the independence of Uzbekistan in 1991, they face once more a crisis in their political and ethnic situation. Due to these circumstances, the identity of Uzbekistan Koreans has gone through changes and become assimilated into the environment. This research presents, in detail, the process of transformation of the ethnic identity of Koreans who were participants in particular historic circumstances of Uzbekistan. The research will analyze from a missiological point of view the significance of the preservation of and the change in ethnic identity of a minority in a multi-ethnic nation, and suggests a model of mission strategy to Koreans in Uzbekistan based on that analysis.
