Theologically supported, the model used education, communication, and social psychology disciplines. Classes, discussions, and social activities over five months formed the model. Caucasian church members, ethnic adherents, and unchurched ethnics of the local community participated.  It was effective for increasing ethnic growth in the church. Increased cultural knowledge and understanding motivated Caucas to ethnic outreach. The objectives are to orient the new pastors about ethnicity in the United States, to inform them about the Southern Baptist Convention and to lead them to contextualize the gospel, ecclesiology, and polity in their congregations. The research was done through a series of questionnaires and evaluations which influenced the content of the seminar. The seminar was planned and implemented as a two-hour seminary course. In the second Quadrennium it received greater support from the Church.  Within the Southern New England Conference a strategy was put into place in 1983.  This project focuses on that strategy and raises questions about its relevance. To determine the impact of the strategy, visits are made to ethnic centers, a structured interview is held with Bishop George Bashore and questionnaires are sent to district superintendents, pastors and lay persons. The study includes a review of the sociological factors that are at work in the communities where multi-ethnic congregations are often found.  Factors such as economics, housing, government, and people movement are discussed.
