The kingdom offers an alternative paradigm in contrast to established evangelical forms grounded in human wisdom and understanding. Through biblical paradigms and statistical research, the author describes the condition of early 21st-century American Christianity. Through the use of systems thinking and cultural diagnosis he defines what he terms the 'seven deadly D's' of American church life. The kingdom of God is presented as the only theological systemic approach to remedy these maladies. This work is unique in its pastoral perspective, narrative style, and cognitive processing. Understanding the kingdom and learning to live and lead within a kingdom framework will equip many evangelical pastors, leaders, and laypeople to progress from personal burnout toward a more hopeful position. The significance of this work is in recovering the kingdom of God as the necessary biblical corrective to modern evangelical leadership formation and church practice. This includes implications for the rethinking of evangelicalism, a new approach to theology, and the formation of multidimensional leadership. This will assist 21st-century Christian leaders in dealing with complexity, diversity, changing spiritual paradigms, and interdenominational unity. It offers hope as new fuel and a kingdom model as a cognitive construct as well as recommendations for application."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129752786960384,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:20:42.584Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:27:51Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:28:08Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"23cf1952-8265-4b12-abd5-1983d75e4a21","accessControl_ssim":["76bb8d15-9d4c-40a6-9b08-e45be3e3ab17"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Christian women making biblical and theological decisions"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:27:50Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:11:24Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6b5a9784-c604-480f-9c65-13c3ed2ab7c8"],"hasLease_ssim":["a0591461-03e6-4819-bc7e-8fa8d6a3ea65"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Alice P Mathews"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Natalie Ruth Eastman"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Critical thinking","Women in Christianity","Church work with women","Women","Evangelicalism"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Conflicting voices in the contemporary conservative Christian church, as well as voices of both the near and distant historical past, profoundly -- and often negatively -- impact women and the church at large today. It argues that Christian leadership and the authoritative Christian voices in women's lives should encourage them to learn, construct knowledge, critically weigh propositions, and exercise their gifts. A ministry model is developed based on the author's experience of an unusually high number of divorces in a church where he served; an analysis of biblical teaching on marriage, divorce, and remarriage; interviews with divorced Christians active in local churches; interviews with pastors and parachurch workers who have experience counseling the divorced; and research in the field. The development of the model also drew from an analysis of a local parachurch divorce recovery ministry and from research on the social and psychological impact of divorce on the church. Several misconceptions are revealed about the divorce experience, social consequences, and ministry to the divorced. Outlines are used to develop a paradigm for ministry to the divorced and remarried that can be used by evangelical churches with varying theological assumptions about divorce, as well as by churches of varying sizes."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130781881466880,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:37:04.005Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:25:48Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:27:37Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"21be2572-a7cb-4e1e-91fd-cc7db1bf3f3c","accessControl_ssim":["2c4ccaea-e722-4d17-8e4b-e4f45f3cef11"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Women in pain: the need to train leaders for effective pastoral care"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:25:47Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:08:01Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["5b3d2208-9319-4a27-8610-97900f16f584"],"hasLease_ssim":["a34a322d-4e35-4a1c-950a-26d98ee686fe"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Alice P Mathews"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Beverly White Hislop"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Pain","Evangelicalism","Women","Church work with women","Suffering"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis-project argues for the need to provide training for leaders in the faith community with a desired outcome of identifying and assisting women in dealing constructively with the trauma of their life experiences.
