It presents the need and theological foundations for such a ministry.  Questionnaires and interviews were used to gather data from clergy, remarrieds and about to be remarrieds.  Study of literature and audio resources on remarriage were also pursued.  Seminars can be designed to help prepare couples for remarriage.  The study discusses design, implementation and evaluation of a 'planning on remarriage' seminar and addresses barriers for doing so in a conservative evangelical setting. This church's often troubled life has been a remarkable microcosm of wider currents in American church history.  This study traces these currents from 1825-1975 with particular reference to the relationship between 'evangelical faith' and 'social concern'.  Primary documents available are the official records and writings of its ten ministers over 150 years. Personal faith and active social reform characterized many evangelical churches in the 19th century.  The fundamentalist-modernist controversy has characterized the 20th century and continues to hamper the unity and mission of the church. While there are new possibilities for reconciliation between 'personal faith' and 'social gospel' among conservative and liberal Christians, particularly with the emergence of the 'new evangelicals' of the 1970s, some issues, especially biblical understanding and authority, indicate continued tensions. Though there are Orthodox people in a number of regions of the world, the focus of this project will be on people with Orthodox background who are currently living in Eastern Europe or who have immigrated from countries in Eastern Europe. The project work will begin with extensive research of the beliefs of people of Eastern orthodox background. The research will primarily be conducted through a study of the literature available on Eastern Orthodoxy, but will also involve interviews with current and former Orthodox adherents. Two means will be used to inform and train evangelical Christians in how to witness to people of Eastern Orthodox background. First, the writer will develop, lead, and evaluate a seminar on witnessing to Orthodox people. Seminar participants will be issued a manual that will reinforce the material taught. Second, the writer will revise the manual based on evaluation and feedback from seminar participants. The scope of the dissertation includes an assessment of an evangelical seminary. Post-evangelicalism is a response to the current shifts in thinking, particularly that of post-modernism. Traditional evangelical women exemplify how patriarchal paradigms prevent women from finding their voices.  Pat Schneider's creative writing program was used in a spiritual growth workshop.  The women participants described the difficulties of having a voice amidst both their church's patriarchal authority and their internal struggles with their role as women.  As the workshop concluded the women reported experiencing some personal growth. Preaching is an ethical issue.  How the pastor prepares, delivers, and conducts himself in preaching is vital to effective witness.  A survey of evangelical preaching discloses some troubling trends.  Propaganda, power, manipulation, and distortion devices are documented.  No doubt some of these are intentional, but some may be unintentional, yet nevertheless unethical.  A biblical model of persuasion is presented as an ethical code for the pulpit.  Emphasis lies upon examples found in NT preaching. It surveys scripture, church history and modern theology concerning 'mission' in the life of the church. Finally it proposes and defends a Christ-centered hermeneutic and Christ-centered preaching.
