Congregation members attended a community development conference, participated in small group book studies, and engaged with a blog focused on an empowerment model of mission ministries. These activities prompted small but significant changes to existing ministries. Applying theology and organizational theory the pastors will learn how to instruct and model what it means to be part of a kingdom of preists and what is their responsibility as ambassadors in their neighborhood and community. The project included three main phases: research, strategy development, and presentation. Phase one researched demographics of Theodore, Alabama and numerous books on church planting, church revitalization, and church health. The project director also attended three workshops on church planting. An annotated bibliography was used to design a curriculum for phase two. Phase two selected a group of church leaders from First Baptist Church of Theodore who met for five sessions to study the best practices of church planting and develop a church plant strategy for FBCT. Phase three completed the project as the church plant strategy team designed a strategy and a written narrative before presenting the proposal to the deacon body of FBCT. The project director gathered and analyzed demographics information to more effectively understand the general composition of the population of the city of Sheffield, Alabama, and its surrounding communities. The project director explored the biblical models for evangelism and church growth found in the Bible, gathering resources to provide the strategic planning team with the necessary scriptural and historical support. Next, the project director interviewed pastors and church leaders whose churches are experiencing significant growth in areas with cultural and demographic similarities to that of York Terrace Baptist Church. Finally, utilizing the resources gathered, the project director and a strategic planning team developed an evangelistic, church-growth plan for York Terrace Baptist Church. I enlisted a group of older adults for an eight-session ministry experience who learned about missions, evangelism, prayerwalking, and Pima culture then served as missionaries thorugh an evangelistic event. When relationships deepen, personal and community transformation occurs. By extension, the generative hope of a community and its children prosper.The people of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Oxford, North Carolina want to know their neighbors in the perpetually declining, poverty-ridden neighborhoods around the church. This poverty-trap imprisons parents, children, and families without hope of a different future. Our community and its citizens can be so much more than we are; and the faith community offers a unique commodity in this transformation. Jesus Christ calls us beyond our comforting walls to address socio-economic issues that plaque our communities. Through the love of God and deepening relationships, we authentically experience transformation through parity.The faith community cannot accomplish the mission alone. St. Augustine of Hippo directs the citizens of the City of God, temporarily residing in the earthly city (Babylon), to identify the 'common good'. Our Christian commodity is a 'peculiar peace' and love of God, which draws us outward to our neighbor. This project is local, community relationship-building - a partnership between St. Stephen's, Social Services, and the Boys and Girls Club. The church, government, and local stakeholders identify the common good, as we jointly offer and engage practical resources for the parents of children enrolled in club activities. It is not another program; rather a space to grow and learn together with neighbors. The social principles of subsidiarity, sphere sovereignty, and generativity under-gird this faith-based partnership; and qualitative data in the form of surveys, questionnaires, focus groups, and interviews highlight the research methods. In the end, the experience of participants is transformative, with new neighborhood partnerships forming, and deepening, holy relationships changing hearts, one-by-one.
