This collaboration or clustering for mission and outreach, enables declining small churches to pool their resources so that in working together in both local and global outreach, they can reclaim their missional call.  This thesis-project demonstrates that after a season of study, discussion and fellowship together, church leaders realize that working together in mission will enable them to do together what they could not do alone.  This thesis-project presents the process, procedures, and study guides used in leading three small membership churches in a six week study of the missional church. I seek to marry church planting with discipleship, making discipleship the primary focus in the church planting endeavor. The aim is to provide the church planter with an appropriate purpose for planting a church as well as with an accurate picture of what discipleship looks like in order to produce and reproduce it. This work challenges the church planter to consider 'what' to plant more so than 'how' to plant. The church planter will be armed with a process for making disciples in and through his church plant and be free of having to retrofit a process. Often several churches in the same community evangelize the same people, each then vying for the new converts. There is a better way: collaboration, documentation, and fellowship. Therefore, Chapter one identified biblical patterns of evangelism juxtaposed with evangelistic methods today in St. Albans, NY. Chapter two and three discuss the interrelated theological and anthropological dynamic in collaboration. Chapter four uses the Hexagon exercise with a learning team of neighboring pastors to develop a working methodology. Members of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Forest will be surveyed through an online questionnaire and focus groups regarding their own values and practices in philanthropy and where they believe their local church should be involved in mission. A group of 18-26 year olds will partner with a fifty-something pastor in sermon preparation for three months. The group will reflect on selected biblical texts and provide insights for sermon development.  Data from the group, the preached sermons, sermon evaluations, and interviews with key stakeholders will inform recommendations for next steps. The intervention aimed to inspire Christians to reclaim otaku for the Gospel. Research was accomplished through qualitative mixed methodologies including: surveys, interviews, observations, and group activities.
