Like many churches today, it is in danger of becoming internally focused. Because the church faces new challenges in an ever increasing post-modern culture, the project director attempted to begin a conversation about the positive impact on evangelism that an externally focused church can have. To begin this conversation, the project director taught a six-session seminar to twelve adult leaders of Seminary Baptist Church and preached a four-sermon series. The author wrote and taught an evangelism manual to deepen the participants' confidence in their faith and their ability to share this faith with others. A survey was designed to collect data on various church planting organizations including local churches, denominations, regional judicatories and para-church church planting organizations. The survey was distributed at the Exponential '08 church planting conference which was sponsored by the Church Planting Network. It demonstrates how to develop the mission for grade five and six children who have never attended church.  The team has practiced in a playground where moral and religious education have taken place every Saturday and Sunday.  Through this program, they formed a community and became evangelized.  The sports mission also aims to help the children become responsible individuals.  It is designed with careful consideration of every stage of the children's development with regard to Erikson's educational theory.  The mission also aims to evangelize the parents through the children. Regarding Johan Huizinga's idea and argument on 'homo ludens,' this project attempts to contribute to the discussion on 'play theology' which is mainly being led by Jürgen Moltmann, Harvey Cox, and David L. Miller. Can they then develop a means to share their faith with first-time visitors to Sunday morning worship? The author designed and led three different activities in which the arts were used as a vehicle for theological reflection. Through this process members were able to articulate their faith. Having successfully articulated their faith the author then led members through a process in which they designed and created a welcome bag. The bag contained objects that symbolized the faith articulated in the first part of this project. The study looked at three models being used by United Methodist churches for multi-site ministry: purchase and build, church merger, and existing space/rental.  The study used semi-structured interviews with focus groups from three multi-site United Methodist churches.  The study focused on the decision making process in becoming a multi-site church, the transitioning process from a single to multi-site church, the experience of being a multi-site church, and the relationship to the United Methodist hierarchy.  The study found that most churches do not start with the intention of becoming a multi-site church, but are influenced by various factors, including some type of crisis, a strong evangelistic emphasis, or a powerful vision. Regarding the transition process, the study found that a sufficient amount of time and careful planning were necessary for success.  Key factors were a realistic understanding of the difficulties, the importance of leadership, communication within the congregation and outside, effective advertising, and the use of missioners.  The study found that there were struggles as well as benefits in the practice of multi-site ministry.  Leadership and leadership development were important factors.  Benefits included reaching different demographics and providing variety in worship and ministry styles. Struggles included relating to other churches of the same denomination, dealing with finances, and maintaining a sense of unity.  Regarding the relationship with the hierarchy, the study found little information. Most churches experienced minimal help or contact with church officials except in cases of conflict with other churches.  There was often misunderstanding with the multi-site model.  Greater participation by district superintendents and bishops could be expected with the merger model.
