The project has three main parts: (1) chapter one lays out the theological underpinnings for the central thesis, a definition of evangelism that can be used effectively and with integrity in the preparation and carrying out of weddings and funerals, and three 'guidelines' pastors can use as they prepare weddings and funerals with evangelism in mind; (2) chapters two and three each contain three case studies which serve to illustrate the central thesis and function as models for pastors who wish to be more effective in their wedding and funeral ministries; (3) the fourth chapter summarizes the author's conclusions and learnings. What was borne out by previous research held true for this project: a television ministry doesn't increase church membership.  However, our research has demonstrated that people do watch religious programming, and with those who have participated in this ministry, we have forged informal links of church. The monolithic culture is composed of historic residents, while the pluralistic culture pertains to those new in the community. Two outreach services have been developed to penetrate these cultures. Research involved studying both the changed context in which the church now ministers and ways a congregation can expand its understanding of evangelism. The project looked at several of the components that undergird a congregation of evangelists: organizational structure, ability to name and proclaim the good news, and creation of opportunities to interact with neighbors. A seeker small group is a grouping of eight to twelve individuals who are searching for answers to spiritual questions.  The project is based on four biblical presuppositions.  The intent of the project is to assist the church in her evangelistic responsibility.  The project will encompass a mentoring process with two distinct phases: an intensive training and a supervision process.  This on-the-job training will provide beneficial reinforcement and feedback and enhance the group experience. Thirty-seven pastors were interviewed who claimed to have changed their congregations from an inward to an outward focus.  Twenty-six of these pastors came from thirteen different states and eleven from Finland, Sweden, and Estonia.  Further understanding and insights were gathered from interviews with one Baptist, one Lutheran and one Methodist congregation.
