The goals of this project were assessed by using a five-point agreement scale and three qualitative questions. The findings of the data revealed that the participants gained an ability to identify their core longing wounds and an understanding of how their wounds inhibit their ability to experience God's love. Specific spiritual disciplines were practiced in the group. The researcher developed and implemented an eight-week parachurch spiritual formation discipleship program consisting of teaching and praxis to meet those spiritual needs. The hypothesis was that the participants would report an increase in hearing the voice of God, encountering God's presence, gain confidence in ministering to others through words of knowledge and healing, and improve their spiritual well-being. Prior to my arrival as Director of Music in July of 2006, worship was characterized by a strong sense of 'performance' of the spoken word and musical liturgy. As we welcome new members and continue to seek ways to live out our covenant to honor and celebrate people of all races, cultures, ages, abilities, sexual orientations and gender identities, our worship must also reflect this acknowledgment of diversity in our community, and must inform our shared experience of the divine in all of our lives. For many, these two influences are oxymoronic. Yet if missional theology and ecclesiology are correct, then the missional church vision must influence attractional megachurches for these churches to be who God called them to be.
