Following the Ministry Skills Enhancement Model, the project director enhanced his development and communication of sermon applications related to biblical truths proclaimed within each sermon. The project focus was to ensure members and attendees of Oak Park Baptist Church, Algiers, Louisiana, understand the biblical text and how it applies to their walk with Christ. The project will: (1) research the subject of the sermon application; (2) develop a series of expository sermons applying the knowledge gathered; (3) preach a sermon series to those attending Oak Park Baptist Church, Algiers, Louisiana; and (4) evaluate the effectiveness of the sermon application by using a sermon evaluation team. The researcher preached a twelve-week sermon series as Cross Community Church in Poteau, Oklahoma. Each sermon focused on motivating the listeners to display biblical attitudes and behaviors toward one another. The testing utilized a qualitative survey that was developed by the author. Each strategy has its benefits and losses, but all strategies must lead to the pinnacle of hearing God's word. This research will investigate the benefits for the church congregation at Highland Baptist Tabernacle of strategic, long-term sermon planning through the Book of Hebrews. The motivation behind the research is to determine whether strategic, long-term sermon planning benefits this local church congregation in the areas of biblical understanding, spiritual conviction, and Christian living. If this strategy for sermon planning is highly beneficial, it could be likened to that of a strenuous climb up the mountain-difficult but well worth the effort. Such cohesion enables the preacher to avoid the danger of fragmentation. The gospel of Matthew is chosen as a test case to demonstrate how a theme-based approach to the Scriptures facilitates the identification of a book's literary structure and central ideas of the text. This approach to the biblical text reveals Matthew's theological framework. Because this framework exposes the central ideas of a book's literary structure, it aids in sermon preparation.
