This study explored how faith changes and develops at times of suffering and after, using Pargament's RCOPE and the author's questionnaire on faith behaviors.  Using McClure's roundtable pulpit method for an 8-week study, the author taught a lectionary-based class focused on making sense of suffering, and wove personal stories, scripture, and emerging theological themes to inform the preaching. The author used liberation theology as a basis for research and included material from Luke 4:18, as well as The White House Office of Faith Based Initiatives to support the premise that the faith community can collaborate with government agencies and others to transform communities.
