The causes of the church's problems are rooted in the believers' absence of experiences with God and misunderstandings about prayer and spirituality.  Centering prayer is a long overlooked form of contemplative prayer rediscovered within the Christian heritage.  With solid historical, biblical, and theological bases, it is a key tool in producing spiritual growth and maturity in contemporary Christians. The project was intentionally designed for the growth of both the mentor and the student.  The project utilized learner-centered mentoring to accomplish the project's purpose.  In this mentoring paradigm the responsibility for the learning experience is shared as a means to deepen the spiritual lives of college students and utilize the influence of each mentor. The project was structured around training sessions, weekly meetings, and follow-up sessions. To start, healthy churches were observed and literature on discipleship was explored. A manual was created and put to use with church leadership and with a focus group of congregants. The project illustrates how a stage 5 modal level of aspiration among church leaders can encourage a church to serve the needs of people as different developmental stages simultaneously.  Church leaders who can reliably identify an individual's stage of faith, and who speak multiple 'languages of faith,' can adapt their ministries of discipleship, evangelism and pastoral care to effectively meet each individual's needs. The director researched effective equipping models, developed materials to lead a seminar, and conducted the seminar.  The concept of spiritual growth guides blended some of the aspects of discipleship, mentoring, and Christian coaching.  The director trained the select team in four sessions over a four-week period. The research design is qualitative. The researcher interviewed individuals to collect data on the integration and practice of the disciplines. Each church believes the disciplines aid renewal and transformation of lives. Through modeling, intentionally teaching, and through personal experiences the selected churches successfully integrated the disciplines into individual believers. Because of the diversity of the churches, their methods are transferable. It was anticipated that completing the discipleship programs researched would strengthen participants' spiritual health in each of the six areas measured. It was discovered that the only area in which the programs studied strengthened maturing participants' spiritual health was that of 'Committed to the Lost.' Other significant discoveries were made concerning the affect of gender, church size and age on spiritual health. Significant contributors to spiritual health were also discovered.
