A handbook includes practical guidelines for organization and activities for program. The conclusion of the study shows that process thinking, inductive reasoning and faith development research provide the basis for a dynamic Christian community. Churches using this approach will meet the needs of seekers in the larger community who have turned away from traditional congregations."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["38714359-d032-4ed0-ae3f-cb82c8f65a92"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799718950831915008,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:42:20.158Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:00:10Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:10:22Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e73776a2-a51a-42fa-b499-e4701170ef3e","accessControl_ssim":["1d1fb806-5341-4d7f-8f6c-226b06026b68"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["An integration of theological and psychosocial method for interpreting congregational development"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:00:09Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:44:47Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["c0e6d6a9-acc8-4a39-82ec-259a6528dc36"],"hasLease_ssim":["eeb38ba0-68ff-49f6-964d-ca80a8a631bd"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Seminary"],"year_tesim":["1986"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["John W Tien"],"publisher_tesim":["Western Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Congregations","Faith development","Fowler, James W","Erikson, Erik H. He integrated the developmental stages of Erik Erikson, James Fowler and the classical order of salvation and developed a grid that can be used descriptively and prescriptively in charting the life development of a congregation. He also added a level entitled faith dynamic which identifies the type of faith experience that becomes the major theme at specific stages of development. The author has formally and informally used the grid both as a pastor and as a consultant. This specific study shows the use of this grid in a large suburban church that had lost much of its vitality and charts its development from 1977 to 1986."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["910240dd-6bfb-49cb-ab06-1b8de036aac8"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132880072605696,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:10:24.996Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:54:23Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:53:55Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"0e98aabd-86b9-4496-b436-335d21d2871b","accessControl_ssim":["36bb7265-1576-46fe-aa59-29ccfa34e3f6"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Growing in faith by grace: a comparison of James Fowler's theory of faith development with John Wesley's doctrine of sanctification"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:54:22Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:31:53Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["62d64b47-d3c4-4fcd-b8e6-6994f13a0c43"],"hasLease_ssim":["544e4a37-34ff-40fb-a6f4-c3d6673bd938"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Phillips Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["1986"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Rex B Wilkes"],"publisher_tesim":["Phillips Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Faith development","Sanctification","Wesley, John, 1703-1791","Theology","Fowler, James W"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The author explores the relationship between Wesley's doctrine of sanctification and Fowler's theory of faith development. To test the thesis, a standardized questionnaire was given to patients of the Presbyterian Hospital chemical dependency unit in Oklahoma City; the questionnaires were given as the patients arrived and also to 100 former patients who had maintained at least one year of sobriety. Of the eleven pre-treatment respondents, nine were stage 2 and two were stage 3.
