Half of the men who step down from the pulpit will cite their main reason for resignation as the unhappiness of their wives. This project was born out of a desire, as a current minister's wife, to help prepare future ministers' wives to stay the course over the often difficult years of ministry ahead. This project determined the most significant issues that pastors and families of forced exits need to address after they leave their church and during the time of transition. This project used interviews and questionnaires of leaders of ministries who work regularly with pastors of forced exits. Ten issues were identified as being the most important issues for pastors of forced exits to address. He studied resilence literature, conducted personal interviews with chaplains, and collected data/responses from an online survey. He learned that incorporating intentional self-care practices that nurture the body, mind, and spirit may reduce the risk of burnout and compassion fatigue, while lowering the impact of secondary traumatic stress.
