Models are: Niebuhr's Christ as transformer of culture, Dulles' church as mystical communion, and Niebuhr's minister as pastoral director. The family may act as a small church. The thesis states that it is appropriate to use the form of the Family Home Evening Program of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) in a United Presbyterian Church (UPC) using UPC content. Twelve sessions were written. Seven LDS theological beliefs regarding families are considered and compared with UPC beliefs. This presupposed that LDS theology gave more support to families than UPC beliefs. The thesis concludes that beliefs of one church are as strong for its members as beliefs of the other church are for its members. Participating families and the Lay and Peer Advisory Groups served as research colleagues and evaluated the hypothesis."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131304918515712,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:45:22.812Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:14:27Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:44:10Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"fd67164a-7399-4af5-8dc1-c0841ee156d3","accessControl_ssim":["04c1c368-e310-4ca4-adb7-db054579351e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The black alcoholic in and out of the black church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:14:26Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:22:43Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["9762c063-1316-494c-9f06-91517a0e657a"],"hasLease_ssim":["06a279bf-1f19-4512-b21f-0a8eff07d7e9"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Boston University"],"advisor_tesim":["Merle R Jordan"],"year_tesim":["1981"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Robert G Murray"],"publisher_tesim":["Boston University School of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Temperance","Families--Religious life","Homicide","African Americans--Religion","Slavery","Alcoholism","Pastoral counseling","Alcohol"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this project is to effectively raise the consciousness level of the Black community to the reality that alcoholism is a disease of epidemic proportion in the Black community, and to outline the ways the Black church can combat and eliminate this problem. Alcoholism is described as 'a chronic illness, psychic or psychosomatic, which manifests itself as a disorder of behavior,' and 'that exceeds customary dietary use of compliance with social customs of the community and that interferes with the drinker's health, or the social or economic functioning.' it is America's number four health problem, but Black America's number one health and social problem. In the chapter 'From the Roots to the Vines,' the project analyzes the use of alcohol in pre-colonial Africa as a convivial beverage for celebration and how the Triangle Trade became 'a geometrical maze' for Blacks with slavery, alcohol, and profits as partners. The drinking pattern for slaves was very ambiguous for they were prohibited by law from drinking because it made them rebellious, but were encouraged to drink because it made them docile."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Boston University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["2d58bd09-76d0-4970-b257-d55229e0173e"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799715292480274432,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:44:11.282Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:13:57Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:00:08Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a62ee51d-bbf4-4e04-896c-b4f60cfa2e97","accessControl_ssim":["a9a3744c-e250-48b9-a277-d0e8a7bc423b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Christian realization through families"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:13:53Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:57:28Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["4b0938ea-5dd8-4ffe-9543-30215f97b829"],"hasLease_ssim":["84100497-0301-4c46-92e4-f4faae528e4d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Knox College (Toronto, ON)"],"advisor_tesim":["Doris J Dyke"],"year_tesim":["1981"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Alexander S MacDonald"],"keyword_tesim":["Relation (Theology)"],"publisher_tesim":["Knox College"],"subject_tesim":["St Andrew's Presbyterian Church (Aurora, Ont)","Congregations","Families--Religious life","Presbyterian Church","Church work","Attitude (Psychology)--Religious aspects","Presbyterian Church in Canada","Church group work"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["In this action-research project carried out in the candidate's congregation in the Winter of 1979-80, seven varied types of families develop a model for intergenerational communication and discipleship.
