Learning methods employed included a seven week sermon series, thirteen training sessions that dealt specifically with husband-wife and parent-child relationships, and a marriage enrichment retreat.  Evaluation of the control and experimental groups was based on a pre and posttest instrument, an instrument measuring relationship change, outside observation, subjective analysis, and personal reflections. Ethnicity is at the core of family functioning, structure, rules, roles, patterns, boundaries, mannerisms, issues, beliefs, and traditions; and that context is the definitive reality in which an individual's, family's  and the community's understanding of itself is created, maintained or changed.  The purpose of this project is to create a working model that will enable the helping professional become absorbed in the energy and relational forces that give ethnic families a distinctive quality of life and relationships. The long absence of the fathers will have undesirable influences on youths.  What problems stem from such a condition?  What pastoral program can measure them? Research was conducted using a questionnaire for two groups of juveniles: one having absent fathers and the other living with fathers.  Pastors were interviewed whose churches have youths with absent fathers.
