The church has a fabulous modern physical plant, a large endowment, and some talented members, all of which were not used as effectively as I believed they could be because of various long-held attitudes relating to racism, secrecy, inclusivity, trust, power, community, and stewardship.  Our theological mandate is to be good stewards of all we have been given, for it all comes from God.  I came to believe that stewardship was the foundational issue through which I could address other issues.  Our relationship to our stewardship reflects our relationship with God. I used Sawin's Family Cluster model to work with a diverse inter-generational group of members, studying various aspects of stewardship with the goal of helping them to change their attitudes toward the resources they have and their use of those resources.  Though I think the family cluster did make people stop and think about stewardship issues, I'm not convinced that they will make any substantive changes in the way they handle the building, the endowment, or the new people who happen their way. This project focuses on the challenges of pastoral responsibilities and family life, using the writer's personal experiences, discussions with other pastors and literature review, thus following the descriptive methodology.  The research revealed that because of the need to fulfill what is expected of them, pastors find less time for their family and personal development.  It further found that spouses and children feel neglected and abandoned for church work and therefore, need more of the pastor's presence in the home. The study group demonstrated a stronger understanding and commitment to these biblical teachings than the author had anticipated. The hypothesis stated that experientially driven curriculum would significantly enrich families to a greater degree than would educationally based curriculum.  Quantitative results were measured through the Family Life Inventory (a forty-item questionnaire representing eight areas of healthy family fun ctioning).  Qualitative results were gathered through written evaluations and participatory observation. This project presents foundation material on family functions and structures, along with sociological, biblical, and theological examples, in support of the concept that the church, the Body of Christ, can be imaged as a family structure. The second chapter focuses on Biblical and theological perspectives.  The issues of patriarchy, child care options for newborns, and the church's involvement are discussed.  The thesis: clergy have more flexible daytime schedules, making it possible for caring for their infants during the day.  The project details clergy experience and summarizes non-random purposive sampling of other clergy to determine their infant care solutions. The importance of meals, of family, and evidence for the early Christian practice of extending Holy Communion into homes are discussed.
