The design of the project utilized an assessment tool to survey adult women between the ages of 20-29. The most prominent finding of this project was that the participants closely to strongly agreed that the daughter's relationship with the father contributed to the feelings of unworthiness in forming a relationship with Christ. Case studies were done using one-on-one interviews. Eight women were selected on the basis of their potential to contribute to the study. Assessment was done on the basis of their relationships with their father, the struggles they had in coming to know God as Father, and what proved helpful to them. The literature review includes research in the fields of family life, spiritual formation, the role of the father in child development, the process of healing childhood pain, and Christian education. There are biblical principles given from the scriptures and how they inform us about a relationship with God as our Father. The ultimate goal was to describe the experience of living fatherless. Interviews were carried out with seven clergywomen and twenty-four laywomen.  The relationships described were categorized according to models of fathering developed by other researchers.  Responses about gender-specific names for God were put together with father-daughter relationship data to see possible patterns. The greatest difference appeared between clergywomen and laywomen.  Clergywomen were more discriminating in choosing names for the divinity; laywomen were open to a wider variety of names.
