This project contributes to this task. In an adult study class in a local church the author uses feminist biblical hermeneutics to enable lay persons to discover and articulate their own hermeneutic. This process allows for the emergence of greater congruence between an inherited view of the Bible and a view which functions in accord with experience. This congruence hopefully will lead to greater understanding of the Bible and its wider use as a resource for faith today."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791126725176852480,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:32:35.230Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:22:29Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:33:56Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"723f8834-0784-43c1-89aa-07abeb00cba4","accessControl_ssim":["407c0e8c-2156-4f00-8fb2-bdc64f01f49d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Calling or co-optation: revisioning ministry in the United Church of Canada"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:22:28Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:28:39Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a4469024-65a6-448f-a4f3-298532d83200"],"hasLease_ssim":["43000572-b012-4d54-9a1f-82a8972eb433"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["St Stephen's College (Edmonton, AB)"],"advisor_tesim":["Gordon Oaks"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Kathleen Marie Heuer"],"publisher_tesim":["St. Stephen's College University of Alberta"],"subject_tesim":["Feminist criticism","Church work as a profession","Deacons--United Church of Canada"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project/dissertation explores ministry in the United Church of Canada from the perspective of a feminist ecclesiology. Using a feminist approach to qualitative methodology, nine diaconal ministers were interviewed to examine their reasons for choosing ordination. Personal and systemic reasons emerged, including sense of calling, need for education and employment security, career development, contextual influences and church policies. Sexism and the marginalization of diaconal ministers were factors. This dissertation analyses the tensions between hierarchical privilege and feminist perspective, and proposes recommendations for the revision of ministry leadership, particularly the re-vitalization of diaconal ministry as oriented towards the world."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791126813865410560,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:33:59.810Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":7,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
