Data from an extensive survey instrument mailed to the pastors is analyzed, conclusions drawn and recommendations made for further study.  The project includes a survey of marriage preparation literature written since 1940 as well as a chapter surveying marriage preparation in biblical literature. The context of the study is a Free Methodist Church in western Pennsylvania.  The project is built around the case study method which currently is used at Asbury Theological Seminary to evaluate professional action and encourage critical thinking.  The important factors which contribute to trust building are familiarity, compatibility, self-disclosure and leadership styles.
