From this examination general abiding principles of church renewal in the Wesleyan tradition are developed. The conflict engendered by the implementation of these principles is also discussed. In the light of a New Testament perspective, ministry belongs to all believers.  The church needs to dissolve the dichotomy between clergy and laity by equipping multiple leaders.  The Free Methodist Church is a movement of holiness, evangelism, social action and mission.  Its pioneer leaders were both laity and clergy. Four such congregations, each more than 30 years old, have grown from an average worship attendance of fewer than 80 to an average of more than 125 within a 10-year period. The project devises and administers a Turnaround Church Survey for use in interviewing pastors and lay leaders in these congregations. The objective is to assist the adult student in approaching John Wesley's contribution to spiritual growth and help him utilize the methods and means offered.  An adult Free Methodist Sunday school class served as the field setting for a pretest inventory, three lessons, posttest inventory, and interview.  Strengths and needs from the pretest determined the lessons' focuses. Data from an extensive survey instrument mailed to the pastors is analyzed, conclusions drawn and recommendations made for further study.  The project includes a survey of marriage preparation literature written since 1940 as well as a chapter surveying marriage preparation in biblical literature. The context of the study is a Free Methodist Church in western Pennsylvania.  The project is built around the case study method which currently is used at Asbury Theological Seminary to evaluate professional action and encourage critical thinking.  The important factors which contribute to trust building are familiarity, compatibility, self-disclosure and leadership styles. Each of these groups implemented one or more church growth programs during this ten-year period. The study of these groups showed strengths and weaknesses which are reflected in the projected four-year plan of church growth for the Free Methodists. Part I covers the development of Christianity in the Philippines beginning with the Spanish entrance in 1517 and continuing through World War II; part II gives an in-depth study of the development of the Free Methodist Church in the Philippines; part III studied the individual church growth programs of other related denominations; and part IV compares the different strategies and assimilates their strengths into a workable program of church growth for the Free Methodist Church in the Philippines. The study set out to evaluate the perceptions of selected Free Methodist clergy and ality concerning the way that changes are impacting new members' discipleship. This study used both qualitative and quantitative research, utilizing 46 interviews and 162 survey questionnaires with no comparison group.  When new members have an increased understanding of the principles behind the standards of conduct held by the Free Methodist Church they also: 1) feel they belong to their local congregations and to God; 2) are growing in their spiritual maturity; 3) make the Christian conduct standards a part of their regular behavior; and 4) are growing in their relationships with Jesus Christ. A significant percentage of both clergy and laity observed new members feeling that they belong to their local congregations even though they have joined their churches under new membership requirements.  This evidence shows that the new membership policies and procedures are starting to
