The problem addressed the tendency of people to observe rather than to participate in ministry due to their lack of knowledge and understanding of spiritual gifts. It developed an equipping ministry launch that consisted of a twelve-week study of spiritual gifts using a preaching series, Sunday school lessons and small-group studies. The launch helped attendees gain knowledge and understanding of spiritual gifts and of their use in ministry. The hypothesis was that a multifaceted revelational homiletic model combining gift awareness and a personal invitation would affect lay activity levels in the local church positively. A spiritual gift inventory, three sermons, and organizational invitations tested this hypothesis. Change was measured quantitatively through a pre/post test and qualitatively through the interview process. Traditionally, the church recognizes and accepts the gifts of shouting, singing, and preaching but a major part of the congregation draws the line of acceptance with other gifts, such as prophecy or speaking in tongues, that have begun to manifest during services. Method: A complete study of the five leaders of Eph. 4:11 identified biblically defined behaviors performed by each.  Interviews with practitioners in each category (15 total interviews) found modern parallels of behavior.  Behavioral questions were developed for use in interviews. Using two groups based on religious backgrounds, both were given instructions designed to bring awareness to spiritual gifts and the involvement of the Holy Spirit in particular, in forming Ministry Teams.
