Theological treatment of God's people sent forth into mission and gifts for ministry combine with a theoretical consideration of the nature of adult education, the leader's role, and the components in this educational curriculum. The two emerge in an educational process that emphasizes the discovery of individual gifts for ministry. The learnings chapter examines the project suggesting a theological approach that begins with and emphasizes mission. The hypothesis, 'as Christians learn what their spiritual gift is, they will be freed and equipped for ministry' is supported with surveys and interviews with 21 members of St John's Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles. Assimilation is dependent, however, upon the clergy staff having the time required to train, equip, and mentor the laity. Additional time can be gained by implementing a lay congregational care system. This system will ensure that all persons in the congregation will be prayed for daily; contacted weekly; will have a person available for nurture and care in times of crisis; and will be in contact with a person who will be an example of God's grace and the church's love. By utilizing this army of volunteers who are gifted in the area of care and nurture, the clergy staff can equip the saints for ministry. Equipping will be achieved through time spent in a mentoring relationship. During this time every effort will be made to help each person identify their spiritual gifts. Once these gifts are identified, one's passion will come to life and one's calling will become clear. A pretest, posttest survey was used to help determine if the care received helped to bring about the other objectives. These scores did indeed prove to be acceptable. The survey also revealed that the congregation was identifying their gifts and were feeling fulfilled in ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["6c1e11e8-b66e-47b6-8fe9-6c546c20935c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134783760236544,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:40:40.494Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:46:42Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:35:23Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"4e4ebbcf-523f-4ca6-bbfe-675025f3efe1","accessControl_ssim":["34d63a00-1054-47f4-a2a3-cfc746768279"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Helping laymen to discover, develop and use the spiritual gift for pastoral care"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:46:41Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:26:02Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["311e268e-de54-465c-a312-9c06478859d0"],"hasLease_ssim":["31210ac1-7587-4b4e-885c-29529da0a356"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Logos Evangelical Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Wilfred Su"],"year_tesim":["2001"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Antonius R Lo"],"publisher_tesim":["Logos Evangelical Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Gifts, Spiritual","Church work"],"language_tesim":["English"],"alternative_title_tesim":["Abstract has title: Helping layman to discover, develop and use the spiritual gift for pastoral care"],"abstract_tesim":["This dissertation proposes to emphasize the fact that God calls every believer to serve Him.
