Jesus summed up these as the two most important commands. The purpose of this project was three-fold: to explore how people understood what it means to practice loving God and others to determine the impact this has on their spiritual growth; to determine if Christians demonstrate a holistic approach to loving God, or instead have a primary or choose a preferred method to loving and drawing close to God; and last, to work with individuals and small groups of Christians to recognize the import and centrality of the commands. The project occurred in seven stages. A comparison of the information gathered from the focus-group research to the post-training survey indicated the success of the project. Nonetheless a finding emerged revealing that in general participants did not understand and pr  actice loving God and loving others in the manner prescribed and exhorted throughout Scripture. The problem at hand is answering the question of how a nine year old church remains committed to honoring God and making more disciples for Jesus Christ. The hypothesis is that if that church remains committed to a biblical vision, it will remain honoring to God and making disciples. The project tested this hypothesis with a congregation survey to understand attitudes towards Timberwood Church's vision. Chapter one gave the history of Timberwood, which started on Easter Sunday 2004. Chapter two outlined some biblical and theological foundations that support the biblical vision. Chapter three allowed the reader to place Timberwood in the history of evangelical thought and practice. Chapter four tested the hypothesis with a project that surveyed the regular attendees and members of Timberwood. This survey explored their understanding of the DNA and values of Timberwood Church as well as attitudes towards the same. God is at the center of Scripture and must be at the center of every sermon. God's Word is not to be preached in an anthropocentric manner that focuses primarily on biblical characters as examples. Theocentric preaching welcomes a Christocentric focus, since Christ's redemptive work is the crucial interpretive tool for understanding the intent of biblical authors. Observing the larger context helps a preacher avoid atomistic misinterpretations. Praise is defined as the demonstrative expression of adoration to God for God and his acts in history.  The project identified the biblical, theological and historical bases for expanding praise in worship.  Various elements of worship through which praise is offered are identified.  Changes in the expectations of congregants are analyzed by comparing three questionnaires completed at different times during the project period. The research was done through the examination of books which have been written on the subject. An exegetical study of certain selected biblical passages dealing with the matter of the praise of God was also included in the research.  The amount of knowledge concerning the subject was determined by the use of a pre-test and post-test designed by the author.  A series of eleven sermons were preached in order to increase the knowledge of the church members.  It was concluded that the vehicle of the sermons was an effective means to increase the knowledge among church members concerning the praise of
