The thesis undergirding and guiding this research project is that an open system is an essential component of a redemptive culture and is necessary to a redemptive process and outcome. A survey of women students and alumnae of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary was taken to determine how they experience their call to and preparation for ministry.  Results are combined with a review of the history of women students at Gordon-Conwell from 1970 to 1990. Formational needs and issues for women are studied. The context of the project was a three week clinical course in hospital ministry based on the pastoral counseling theories of Adams, Hiltner, and Clinebell and Carl Rogers' ideas.  The results from the project revealed a bell-shaped pattern of change.
