It seeks to overcome some of the weakness of, and act as an extension of, premarital counseling. The project serves to help newlyweds in their first years of marriage and was based on Gottman and Silver's book Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work. There were five sessions and six couples involved. The program was designed to help couples grow in love, assess key relational issues and increase in their appreciation of marital enrichment. The shift has enhanced the ends of marriage to acknowledge and include the importance of partnership and community. This project explains a contemporary understanding of the sacrament of marriage. Additionally, it presents the John Gottman research-based marital therapy process. It demonstrates the strong correlations between a Roman Catholic theology of marriage and Gottman's Sound Marital House theory.
