The research proves Whitefield's doctrinal preaching content was a primary factor for why God used him so mightily in the Great Awakening era and beyond contrary to common misinterpretations for his success. A six-week preaching series presented the six principles to our church and included evaluative surveys analyzed in this project. Key persons probed are Sarah Pierrepont Edwards, Gilbert Tennent, George Whitefield, and Jonathan Edwards. They are analyzed through the lens of psychological type. Sarah Pierrepont Edwards is seens as extroverted, sensing, feeling, and judging type. Gilbert Tennent fell in the category of extroverted, intuitive, feeling, and perceiving type. George Whitefield was observed to be extroverted, sensing, feeling, and perceiving type. This thesis begins with an historical analysis of Edwards and the Great Awakening, and then focuses on his Religious Affections, in particular the balance he sought between the divergent movements of his day.
