The thesis draws on the conviction that remembering will play a significant part in the grief process and will make it possible to hope.  If such is the case, then our funeral rituals must provide environments of care in which remembering within the context of the Christian story might take place. The conclusion reached is that an imaginative use of the Order of Christian Funerals does indeed offer scope for remembering. Several theories of grief, both inside and outside of the SDA Church, are briefly explored, thereby developing an understanding of the dynamics of the grief encounter.  Nine grieving individuals of the church founded and formed a grief support group.  For six consecutive weeks they met, and processed their grief pains and acquired insights on being caregivers to other grievers. The goal of the project was to lead and assist the church in developing and implementing a multifaceted approach to grief ministry to attend to the needs of grieving people within and outside of the parish community. The project involves educational, pastoral care and liturgical components. Each exercise was based on one of the tasks of mourning that Wm Worden discussed in his book, Grief Counseling and Grief Therapy. These exercises were used in a group setting consisting of six single adult women. Two were widows, three were divorced and one had lost a brother to AIDS.
