A six-week program conducted in the church enabled participants to do their own grief work and provide support to the congregation.  Resources and training were provided by Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio through the certifies bereavement specialist chaplain.  Pretests, posttests, and observation were used to evaluate the program. The six-week partnership between the Second Baptist Church of Columbus, Ohio and the Hospice at Riverside and Grant Community Grief Program provided education, resources, and support to persons within the first year of grief related to the loss of a loved one. There is very little in the current literature that provides a conceptual framework for assessing the impact of culture on the grieving process from a theological/pastoral point of view. The grief model of Wayne Oates and the life-cycle model of Erik Erikson are used along with selected Scripture from Psalms 13 and 27 and Lamentations 3.  Chapter two reviews the creation of man and woman, as told in Genesis, and offers an interpretation of God's intention for their relationship, which humans have aborted.  Chapter three examines the disciplines of the psychosocial sciences with particular focus on Erikson's life-cycle task for the young adult's struggle to develop from isolation to intimacy.  Chapter four explores the work of Heinz Kohut and Soren Kierkegaard, and Tommy King to propose, in chapter five, a correlational model of grief for Christian young adults who experience divorce. Many of these losses fall under the rubric of marriage, and include the loss of emotional and financial security, changes in friendships following a friend's marriage, and legacy.  This project thesis examined some grief models and offered adaptations for use with never-married adults.
