The first project ministry goal was to research the field of grief ministry in order to equip selected members of Hamilton Baptist Church to minister to persons grieving the death of a loved one. The second project ministry goal was to develop a workshop to train selected members to minister to persons grieving the death of a loved one. The third project ministry goal was to equip the selected members to minister to persons grieving the death of a loved one. The tentative project methodology included lectures, PowerPoint presentations, videotapes, music, case-studies, role-plays, and hands-on activities. The author wrote four sermons and planned four worship services based on those sermons. She charted questions on a Likert continuum, adding open-ended and reflection questions on a second page, and solicited volunteers to participate in the research. Seven worshipers volunteered, and attended four consecutive Sunday services, reflecting, answering questions on the form, and being interviewed. Interviews were conducted with members of the congregation experiencing loss to ascertain insights into the grieving process as well as pastoral and congregational acts deemed significantly helpful. Findings reveal both pastor and congregation have much to offer the grieving. The relationship of complicated mourning and alcoholism is explored.  The 'thick description' of Geertz, the 'method of correlation' of Tillich, and the 'intercultural spirituality' of Lartey are used to examine three case studies; concepts from Bowlby, Rando, Masterson, Hammer and Hammer, and Brown; and theological perspectives from the Bible. The equipping process will include: 1) providing a biblical rationale for utilizing deacons in aftercare ministry; 2) providing information discovered as a result of research regarding grief associated with death; 3) training the group to assist pastoral staff in aftercare ministry; and 4) encouraging sensitivity to and participation in aftercare ministry. The researcher involved the children in activities such as praying, singing, liturgical dancing, journaling and crafts, using the pro-active research method.  This method seeks transformation while conducting qualitative research.  The researcher found that children who participated in grief activities involving prayer and worship were more responsive than those who participated in recreational activities alone.
